"How sweet it is!" Contest!
Location changed to Methodist church as of 8/10/11
Entries accepted Friday Oct. 21 9-5 and early Sat. Oct. 22, 2011 7-9:30am
Judging is Sat. 10:00am with doors locked until 12:30pm while judging taking place!
Location United Methodist Church, 130 N. 1st (1st & Ross), Clearwater, KS-enter through west door.
Special instructions: You (or those in your household) may not enter the same recipe that you entered in 2010, unless you have made at least 2 major changes in the ingredients and/or preparation.
CHANGES (4) from last years entering:
- To enter you MUST be wearing a Clearwater 2011 Fall Festival $2 button OR you MUST buy one from Jacke when you check in your entry --no entries accepted without button-no exceptions! ! ! (per Fall Festival Board)
- One entry on a form, if more than one entry, use multiple completed forms.
- Category VIII is new try to beat the mystery entry with your cake pop or ball !
- May use boxed mixes, cans, or packets/pouch, and tweak/change/add ingredients to make it your own.
TO ENTER
Entries with or without recipe may be emailed to jackee@sktc.net before noon on Oct. 15 or brought with your entry(see above). You may also mail entries and recipes(one per page) to Jacke Eckel, 14217 W. 55th St. South, Clearwater, Kansas 67026 or taken to the Clearwater Library before noon Oct. 18.
Enter as many times or as many entries in each category or division as you like.
Prizes:
- Best of Show of all combined categories--ribbon & prize.
- Best of each Category: ribbon and cash.
- Each Division 1st places: ribbon and cash.
- Each Division 2nd places ribbon and prize.
- Each Division 3rd places: ribbon
Some items may be prepared in the oven or on the stove top or just by mixing, rolling, pressing or forming the ingredients without cooking or baking (like granola or rice cereal treats).
Includes: candy, misc. desserts, AND the mayor’s favorite cookie, AND the Grand Marshal’s cookie plate and the new category VIII.
NOTE: All entries may use a mix or can or packet/pouch as their base and then tweaked, by adding ingredients or changing ingredients--you must list brand names on recipe/ingredient card if a box or pkg. is used -not everything must be from scratch !
A recipe name & list of ingredients must accompany each entry and 5 extra points if a complete recipe is included without your name showing on the recipe card or page prior to noon on Tuesday Oct. 18 with entry form. Anyone may enter even the judges & Fall Fest. committee members as items are given a number & names not shown on entry. If complete recipe is submitted---the Fall Fest committee has the right to print the recipe and distribute it !
Category I Cakes
--- all cakes and entries may be left in baking pan w/your name on bottom
- Division 1: with or without icing, one or two or more layers, sheet cake, angel food
- Division 2: loaf, fruit cake, container cake, pound, cheese cakes, etc..
- Division 3: Brownies, cake bars(not cookie bars), bundt, sweet muffins, sweet quick bread
- Division 4: Healthier type as in other cake divisions desserts and others not covered in above
Category II Pies
--- all pies (may use store bought crust for all pies)
- Division 1: Either 1 or 2 crust. or crumb crust or makes its own crust fruit and/or nut pie, cobblers, deep dish
- Division 2: Cream, custard, chocolate, tarts, and others not listed in Div. 1.
Category III Cookies
--- all cookies (10-12 per plate as 2-4 used for tasting by judges)
- Division 1: Dropped, hand rolled, macaroons, or meringues,
- Division 2: Bar Cookie and they may still be in the pan, Biscotti, monster
- Division 3: Shaped(cookie cutter or by hand), novelty, stacked, sandwich, rosettes, refrigerated, sliced, decorated, and others not covered in the above divisions.
Category IV Misc. Desserts (no candy entered in this category/division)
- Division 1: Desserts or sweet snacks that kids like--like grop, trail mix, rice cereal treats
- Division 2. Healthier desserts, like diabetic, low fat, low sodium, gluten free, dairy free, etc. or you may enter a 2nd separate plate/pan of any of the other above entries.
Category V Candy
---All candy from scratch or using a bought product for your ingredients and have altered. (On presentation plate 6 pieces and three will be used for judging)
Category VI Grand Marshal’s Plate
3 or more kinds of cookies and an option of adding 1-3 kinds of candies. (6 pieces of each cookie and candy on the presentation plate to be given to the Grand Marshal(/s) and on another plate for tasting by judges, place 6 pieces of each piece. Winning plate/container will not be returned. You may wrap each type of candy and or cookie separately to preserve freshness and taste on your presentation plate/container to the GM and you may just cover with plastic wrap or foil the judges tasting plate.(but not necessary to do this).
Category VII: Mayor’s Favorite Peanut Butter Cookie
plate of minimum of 12 cookies (4-6 will be used for judging and you must submit the recipe. Category prize awarded as will be 1st, 2nd. and 3rd places as stated at beginning of info sheet under prizes.
Category VIII: Is your Cake Pop or Cake Ball better than "the mystery entry !"
Only one winner in Category that will get a special prize and you must submit your recipe for this category. Judged on creativity of ingredients and taste. Submit 5 pops/balls. You may have separate entries of different flavors/ingredients. If mystery entry wins then they will receive Cat. ribbon only, runner up will receive 1st place prize and cash, 2nd place will receive 2nd place ribbon and prize, next winner 3rd place ribbon . # of pops/balls changed from 8 to 5 as of 8/10/11
