Hooks, Shuttles, and Needlework Contest Rules
October 22, 2011 at the Methodist Church, 130 N. 1st (1st and Ross), NEW LOCATION
There is no age bracketing and no names may show on items entered. Each entry given a number to correspond to their entry form. When checking entries in, allow time to complete our entry form if not pre-entered. Forms will be available at the Library, City Hall, Emprise Bank & other businesses in Clearwater, July 15 until Oct. 11(noon), or on line at web site (www.ClearwaterFallFestival.com) till Oct. 22. NEW: You must be wearing a Fall Fest. button when you bring your entry to the church--no exceptions--per Fall Fest Board. Jacke will have the $2 button’s for sale at church.
You may enter each category or division by either pre-registering or bringing your item between 8:00AM and 10:00AM(no late entries) on Saturday or your item on Friday Oct. 21, between 2 and 5PM. Forms will be available until 9:30AM on Sat. at the church and must be completed & entry checked in by 10:00AM--so allow time to do that. Doors to the church will be locked on Saturday from 10:00AM-12:00PM for judging. The judging is not open to the public or entrants. Winners posted by 12:30PM on Sat. when facility is re-opened. Entry through back parking lot doors.
Entries and/or prizes may be picked up between 3:00 and 5:00PM. All entries must be out of the building by 5:00PM. By entering this contest you’re giving permission to have your name printed as a contestant and any awards you might receive. Rules & info subject to change ! !
Only embellishments/decorations on machine sewn garments or items will be judged, except for quilts. The construction of a piece of sewn/stitched clothing will not be judged.
10 Bonus Points for submitting your entry form prior to noon Oct. 11. Entry forms may be e-mailed to: jackee@sktc.net or mailed to Jacke Eckel, 14217 W. 55th St. South, Clearwater, Kansas 67026, or taken to the Library (on Tuesdays only) 10AM to 4PM July 18 to Oct. 11(till noon on the 11th).. Points: break-down given in most categories: 1-50 appearance(correct application of needlework), 1-30 on originality/ creativity, 1-20 on neatness/cleanliness.
Prizes: Ribbon and $10 for Best in each of the 2 Categories; In each of 8 Divisions: 1st place Ribbon and $5; 2nd place Ribbon and Prize; 3rd place Ribbon.
Category I: Decorative, Fancy-work, and Household items
- Division 1: Decorative pillows, afghans, bedspreads (larger items), wall hangings
- Division 2: Decorative fancy work like doilies, runners, hot-pads, crocheted, woven, tatting, etc.
- Division 3: Decorative crewel, cross-stitch, needlepoint, etc
- Division 4: Embellished house linens like pillowcases, aprons, curtains, towels, etc.
- Division 5: Rugs, Quilts--handmade or machine assembled or combo, etc.
Category II: Wearable
- Division 1: Woven, knitted, crocheted, but not a sewn wearable unless the embellishment only is to be judged on the coat, sweater, shawl, dress, hat(not crochet/knitted/woven hat), etc.
- Division 2: Small woven, knitted, crocheted, etc. wearable, i.e. boas, mufflers, mittens, hats, socks
- Division 3: Decorative Beading, using a needle to apply beads as embellishment/ decoration (not jewelry beading like bracelets, but on clothing, purses, etc.)
All entries must have been made by the entrant with-in last 5 years & not entered last year!
